Abstract

Jacques Lacan defines jouissance in the real order and castration in the symbolic order. Suffering is the common feature of these two things that manifests differently. The play "The Monsters", written by Naghmeh Samini, is a work with the characteristics of magical realism, about repression and censorship. Therefore, it provides a suitable platform for psychoanalytical research. The purpose of this research is the psychoanalytical reading of the play "The Monsters" relying on the opinions of Jacques Lacan and emphasizing how suffering is represented. This research has been written using library sources and in descriptive-analytical form. According to the results of the research, both sides of suffering are represented in this play. There are signs of castration in the appearance of the house, abortion, Yunus' sleep, etc. Ibrahim, who is an authoritarian father and oppresses Marzieh and Yunus, is the cause of castration. Saeed Shahrazad/ Taraneh Bamdad represents the real order through the texts he writes and provides Marzieh with the possibility of experiencing jouissance and transition from castration .
